Homeless Appreciation Day
The consigliore on Saturday "volunteered" to do some community service, I told him if its court ordered it can't be considered "volunteer" work, just kidding. He participated with his local college alumni association in the clean up of a park near Cherry Creek. I hope the local inhabitants, i.e. the homeless who live along Cherry Creek, appreciate his hard work.

He must not be doing too bad.
This is ridiculous. A small business owner supposedly had to shut his business down because of the bad economic times, but he has $5,500 to waste on a billboard? Something's not right here if you ask me.
From the article:
"Baker told the Buffalo News that the banks had refused to work with him and his brother Scott, according to the Washington Examiner. The men rented the billboard space for $5,500 a month ago, before they knew that the president would be visiting their town."

Glass Plug anyone.....
Here's a radical idea to solve the oil spill in the Gulf, don't laugh, I think we have to look at all the ideas. If this could create a giant glass plug underneath the seabed and cap the well I think we should look at it. Only knowledgeable nuclear scientists could tell us the potential problems but we've detonated nukes under the seas and underground before so there should be some data as to the effects and possible radiation concerns.

Blog Domain Change
No big deal here, but this blog now has a direct domain URL: http://www.brothersbasement.com/ or http://brothersbasement.com/
I previously set up a redirect to the blogspot.com URL (from the above links), but that is no longer necessary.
This change should be almost transparent to you, the faithful reader.
Additionally, the old blogspot.com URL will be redirected to the direct domain.
Happy blog reading!

Maine?!?!?
Heard at Oxford Place earlier this week: "The news says the oil slick has already reached Maine!"
Me: Well, I'm no marine engineer (although I did stay at Holiday Inn Express), but I don't think that is possible. And I don't even claim to be a marine biologist like George from Seinfeld. To my knowledge, the slick has not even reached the Louisiana coast yet (and that is less than one hundred miles from the source). I am however, familiar with the Gulf Stream and think it flows between 5-10 mph. Most folks believe I drive that fast. Speaking of....I don't think I could drive a big ball of crude oil (another Seinfeld ref) from Gulf Coast to Maine (and smash it on the beach) in the time frame that you referenced. So, unless I know geography (aka maps) like the infamous Miss South Carolina contestant, I have to disagree with your assertion.
Cool blog entry on how to track actual slick with Google Earth.

The Death of Cabbage
Today, I morn the loss of a good friend and fellow roommate.
After three (or four) good weeks with us and keeping me company in the kitchen, our good friend Wilson the Cabbage (Castaway Movie ref) bought the farm (get it? :-).....yes the great compost bin in the sky.
I am considering a proper burial (maybe near the Spritz memorial), but will have to be respectful of surviving roommate opinions. I am sure they are also sad (I think the Godfather may have claimed Wilson on the 2010 census form).
Cremation and scattering ashes over The Godfathers alpine tree collection is also a good option.
We all grieve in different ways. I chose to eat a garden salad in his honor.
I will miss him. Wilson had less personality (and a few less brain cells) than other roommate, Oreo, but I still appreciated (and will always remember) his friendship.

Open Letter to Bigoted Old Goat in the UK
Crawl back under your rock!
I cannot believe all the heat Gordon Brown is taking for calling a spade a shovel (no beating about the bush).
Your comment/question about Eastern Europeans was racist. If you are trashing others (that don't look like you) who are trying to make a better way for themselves, you deserve to be outed as a bigot.
I can't believe this story was making the headlines this morning. Main stream media needs to pull their head out! Too bad this story may cost Brown the election. I hope all the non-racists in the UK rally to his defense.
See ya at the next skinhead rally or Tea Party or where ever all you narrow minded people congregate!

25th Highschool Reunion
Wow, its been 25 years since I graduated from highschool, it only seems like 23, I won't be attending the reunion but I went to the 10th and the 20th so I figure I can miss the 25th. Low on vacation days anyways so its for the best. Got me thinking about the music of the 80's and the first concert I ever went too, The Flock of Seagulls (the Go-Go's might have been the main act but AFOS stole the show). Mostly I went for "I Ran" but "ManMade" really got me hooked on AFOS, take a listen. Gotta love the hair!

Some poor Mexican went without this evening...
Vandals defaced the Arizona Capital with refried beans smeared into swastikas to protest the new illegal immigration law. Now I think this is funny as hell but who actually did this? Lets look at this rationally, would the Latinos use refried beans as a form of protest? It plays to easily into the stereotype of Latinos so I really don't think they perpetrated this act. It might have been another group out to inflame passions even further which leads one to believe it might have been the skinheads/white supremacists. Of course the most logical answer is that it was just a couple of college kids playing a prank.
As far the law that Arizona just passed, I'm all for it, if you get pulled over for a broken tail light or speeding or are questioned by the police and you don't have a valid driver's license or photo ID then you should be considered an illegal until you can prove otherwise regardless of your skin color.
I also feel that if you are questioned and can't speak English then you are not from here and are thusly an illegal as well. I'm not singling out Spanish speakers here, if you can only speak Cantonese, Farsi or German then you are also here illegally as the legal immigrants have to show proficiency in English to be granted citizenship.

Drill Baby Drill
Where are all the Drill Baby Drill folks now? Could it be the developing oil slick off the coast of Louisiana is keeping their tongues muted? I'm all for domestic oil production but accidents happen and we need to have the technology developed to deal with any contingency. It seems that the oil companies did not foresee this kind of a disaster or they would have had procedures in place to cap a well accident of this magnitude. Don't they have risk managers whose sole job it is to figure out all the different scenarios for accidents and have a plan how to fix the problem? I wonder if this will be the Exxon Valdez of the Gulf of Mexico.

Angry Traveler at UK Airport

Rush's little memory problem....
Listening to Rush Limbaugh on the radio as I drove back to the office after lunch today, I know, I know, what the hell am I doing listening to Rush but he's on the radio station I listen to for my morning and afternoon commutes because of the excellent traffic reports and I like a good laugh every Friday so I don't change the station. So anyway he gets a caller who's all enamored with Rush, like they all are, and the caller starts in about Rush's big contribution to leukemia and the caller recalls Rush saying that at one point several years ago during a similar pledge drive that Rush called out to his assistant to get his checkbook so that he could write a check, Rush said he couldn't remember ever letting his assistant hold his check book or ever asking his assistant for his checkbook. It all of a sudden dawned on me why he doesn't remember......he was all whacked out on Oxycontin and probably doesn't remember anything from that time period including "W"'s presidency which actually makes perfect sense on how he can rail against everything the democrats are doing but can't remember a thing about the past republican failures.

I keeellll you!!!

What are my co-workers eating....
.....that smells so bad coming out the other end that it overwhelms the industrial strength air purifier/sanitizer? I walked into the bathroom and I first get hit by the pine smell of the air purifier/sanitizer/freshener only for it to be over taken shortly there after by the noxious ass cloud, I think this is what death smells like. I had to stifle a laugh as I stood at the urinal though as I realized someone else was in one of the bathroom stalls, why is the smell of ass so funny?
LegoLand Text Messages
Visited LegoLand (kids amusement park) for the first time last week only to find out they do not serve adult bevs :-( Ouch! That's a lot of kid time with out medication.
Text messages exchanged between the Godfather and myself while I was there:
Mine - LegoLand today. GetLoadedLand tomorrow :-)
Godfather - Have you ridden any rides at GetLoadedLand like ‘Falling Down Stairs’, ‘Hugging the Porcelain God’, ‘Missing the Urinal’, ‘Falling Off the Bar Stool’?
It was actually a great day, despite lack of mind lubrication.

It was pratice I tell you, practice
If Tiger Woods had 18 different mistresses wouldn't that just qualify as a round a golf, you know he just played 18 different holes.

Solar Airplane Takes Flight
A solar airplane took flight recently relying solely on solar energy for its propulsion. I was most impressed with the accomplishment until further down in the article it states they plan on conducting a night flight, WTF it's a solar, i.e. needs a light source, plane dumb asses!!
