Corporations aren't just for breakfast anymore....

 Go take a read

Nobody can deny that corporations are invading almost all aspects of our life. With the Citizens United ruling allowing them to have "free speech" in commercials to sway voters, to sports teams with advertising on their jerseys, to menus in restaurants that have cross promotional advertisements for ingredients in the food, to product placements in movies and the list goes on. But now it seems companies have invaded the COMMON CORE curriculum testing in New York. Everyone denies that money exchanged hands but something smells here and its not the smell of hot fresh crescent rolls from the oven.
As a convenient out, the school board says that they did not alter test questions that were provided by Pearson the test publisher. What it doesn't say is who provided the test questions to Pearson. Whose to say that the questions did not come directly from the companies with the products in the questions. No money exchanged hands in that transaction but I bet the New York public education system got something somewhere from these companies. It was probably some corporate out reach that got good publicity for the corporations as they did this great thing for the school system with no expectation of benefiting from it except for goodwill from the public. We've all heard it before, there is no free lunch.
The last line in the article pretty much sums up the corporations thinking:

"Brands are part of our lives," said Allen Adamson, managing director of the New York brand consulting firm Landor Associates. "To say they don't belong in academia is unrealistic."

Mr. Adamson you say they belong, well I say to you Mr. Adamson, "Brands don't belong in academia you horse's ass". I think America has offically jumped the shark.
