Greyhound Bus in the Sky......

Passengers are getting larger sooooooooo......the seats need to get smaller. Excellent idea gentlemen, lets do lunch.

http://money.msn.com/investing/the-incredible-shrinking-plane-seat

Some of the comments:

I find it's more comfortable to stuff myself into my own carry-on and have someone stow me in the overhead compartment.

Soon we will fly standing up with tubes attached to our mouths and buttocks to alleviate all in-flight requests or desires.

I hope when the Airline executives die and go to hell, their sentence will be to sit in the seats they designed for eternity.

If the check-in agent asks me which side of the plane I want to sit, I just say "the inside", that's how low my expectations have sunk.

Oh by the way in the near future expect to have subway type passenger straps for the standing class passengers.

Airlines are going to find a way to legally stack people up like cord wood when all is said and done.

The airlines won't have to worry about SEAT BELTS when they cram all those people into the tight seating space.

The dog in his cage in the cargo area has more room.

Any truth to the rumor that  the next phase will be toboggan-style seating. All the seats will be removed and everyone will sit on the floor with their arms and legs wrapped around the passenger in front of them?

Anchorman Ice Cream

In a few weeks I'll have to see if they are carrying it at my local King Soopers. If they do I'll have to try it even though we are moving out of ice cream season here in Denver. When it's cold outside I don't like to eat ice cream so thusly it is no longer ice cream season.

Big fan of butterscotch, not so much of Anchorman, Some of the scenes like the battle between the networks in the first were great but some others not so much.

Republicans only have themselves to blame....

The shutdown continues and no one in the Republican party is willing to stand up to their fellow Tea Party Republicans because they don't want to be "Primaried". The Republicans however caused this problem due to the gerrymandered districts they pushed through after the last census. Take a look at some of the maps

http://pjmedia.com/zombie/2010/11/11/the-top-ten-most-gerrymandered-congressional-districts-in-the-united-states/

(Look at all three pages of maps, I like the second page where water is used to bring non-contiguous areas together to form districts, all districts are suppose to be contiguous)

Now many of these gerrymandered districts have democrats as their representatives. This might make you believe that this is an advantage to the democrats, but what the republicans did was to group large swaths of democrats into these gerrymandered districts which left the other districts around them to lean heavily republican. By concentrating democrats in a single district more districts were made to lean republican meaning more republican House of Representatives got elected and explains why the republicans won more seats in the House of Representatives even though the democrats got more actual votes across the country. Now these republicans are being pushed by their constituents to shut down the government because they don't like the ACA and the representatives can't say no even though it is detrimental to the country.

I guess this is the law of unintended consequences. Be careful what you ask for.

Does anybody else think this is a bad idea?

They are planning on building an invisible sky scraper near an airport in Seoul South Korea. Yeah, this will turn out well.

Republican Hold Vote to Shut Down their Prefrontal Cortex

From the New Yorker:
The article can be found here

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—In an escalation of the stalemate gripping Washington, House Republicans voted today to shut down the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that controls reasoning and impulses.
The resolution, which passed with heavy Tea Party support, calls for a partial shutdown of the brain, leaving the medulla and cerebellum, sometimes referred to as the “reptilian brain,” up and running.

The Tea Party caucus cheered the passage of the bill, which was sponsored by Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who called the measure “long overdue.”
House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) offered no timetable for restarting the prefrontal cortex, telling reporters, “It will most certainly remain shut down during any negotiations with the President. That’s the only leverage we have.”
Representative Bachmann agreed: “The President can go ahead and put a gun to our heads. There’s nothing there.”
While the G.O.P.’s decision to shut down the prefrontal cortex rattled Wall Street, the neuroscientist Davis Logsdon said it should be seen as little more than a symbolic vote, noting, “It’s actually been shut down since the 2008 election.”

That's pretty darn funny. Explains a lot though.

Thoughts on the Government Shutdown

The main reason for the government shutdown is the Affordable Care Act or ACA, it is not Obamacare. The Republican representatives don't like it and don't want to fund it. That is all fine and good but it seems to me the issue of the Affordable Care Act has already been settled. It was passed in the Congress, sure it was Democratically controlled at the time but who voted for all those Democrats? the American people. So Congress made the Affordable Care Act the law. The Supreme Court upheld the law saying it was a tax and thusly legal for Congress to enact. The following elections saw some republican gains but not nearly what they need to overturn the law. President Obama was re-elected ensuring that the the law would not be overturned by Romney. With all these things the American people have chosen that they want the Affordable Care Act. If they did not want it the Affordable Care Act they would have voted for Romney and the Republicans who would have gotten rid of the law. To me, this case is closed.

If the Republicans are so sure that this law will fail why don't they let it fail. Let it fall flat on it's face and they can say I told you so, but maybe they aren't that sure it will fail and are mainly trying to make sure it does not succeed because they fear that it will make healthcare cheaper which will affect the bottom lines of their corporate benefactors.

The American people have spoken. The majority have stated they want the Affordable Care Act. I don't care that you don't like it. Majority rules in this country. If you are in the minority then you have not made your case to persuade the majority to follow you. Come up with a better solution and persuade the majority that your plan is better. Until that time you can voice your displeasure but don't bring the country to its knees because you didn't get your way. Pass the CR so the government can get back to business.

Way To Go Vets!!!

An Honor Flight from Mississippi with WWII vets was stopped from entering the WWII Memorial. The area was cordoned off because of the government shutdown. The vets broke through the barricade and visited the site anyways while the park service police watched. I love it, whose going to stop them. How would you feel about your job if you were told you had to stop an aging, some wheelchair bound, group of veterans from visiting their memorial. I would probably quit if I was instructed to keep them out, just bad karma to keep them out.

Weekend Vacation

Things overheard this weekend.

1st gentleman:   "I remember when this place had an ass in every seat"
2nd gentleman   "Not to mention this place was packed too"

"I always leave my gay tranny porn magazine in the airplane seat back so the next traveler will have something to read"

"I paid to park, now I have to wait in line to leave, WTF"

Did you know:

The Garden State Parkway in NJ has full service gas stations.

On the Atlantic City Boardwalk you can hop in a three wheel cart with a seat that fits two and be pushed up and down the boardwalk by a guido.
