Nappy New Near.....

Back from my sojourn to the childhood stomping grounds. Had a great week in Florida despite the cold weather, 4 cold fronts came through during our week long visit. I don't ever remember more than 1 cold front in a week in my 25 years of living in Florida, global warming anyone??. Got to visit with several old friends and church associates, man we're all getting old with grey showing in everyone's hair and beards. Took in the movie "Avatar" at the IMAX screen in Tampa. That was a great movie with the 3-D that made it look like you were right there in the jungle. Got to do a little gambling at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Tampa and won $10 at blackjack, others in the group won $350 and $150 playing the nickel slots.

Ate like a king at the parents condo including prime rib roast on Christmas, smoked fish from Ted Peters, oyster stew on Christmas Eve and surf and turf with the turf grilled on a George Foreman grill. It tasted like it had been cooked on an outside grill which really surprised me. Had some excellent seafood including oysters on the half shell in Bradenton at the "Anna Maria Oyster Bar" and also enjoyed Cobia for the first time at "Down the Hatch Seafood Co." at the southern tip of the Daytona Beach island at Ponce Inlet. We found this restaurant by using the Hertz Never Lost GPS unit in the rental car after our first choice was closed for the holidays. Normally I don't rent such things as I know my way around Florida but it came standard in the convertible we rented.

Took in Animal Kingdom at the house that the mouse built but was under impressed with it, maybe I'm too old for those parks. Did enjoy the Nemo musical though. Rented a convertible corvette for the trek through Florida but did not get to enjoy the top down as much as I wanted due to the coldness and my passenger complaining about the cold. It was a nice car, great guttural noises when you gave it some gas, but probably better for just a weekend jaunt as the luggage space is pretty none existent.

Great to be back in Denver where on arrival it felt warmer than Florida even though the temperature was 20 degrees cooler in Denver, ahhhh the power of humidity....makes if feel hotter in the summer and colder in the winter.

Go check out the vacation photos here.
