The Winter Olympic Opening ceremonies were pretty cool especially the Orca's swimming across the floor of the stadium with their spray coming out of the floor, the ice breaking up and the performers trying to stay on the ice, and oh and the skiers and snowboarders doing tricks and spins while on wires in front of the mountain scape.
The lighting of the Olympic torch is always talked about quite a bit in the pre-ceremony and this year the talk was about whether "The Great One" Wayne Gretzky would have any part in it. When I heard that he might be a part of it, the idea that came through my mind was wouldn't it be cool to have the traveling Olympic torch light a hockey puck and have Wayne Gretzky shoot the flaming hockey puck over the cauldron to get it lit.
It was too bad they had a problem with one of the ice columns for the flame in the stadium not functioning. On the other hand its good the games are in Canada because if that problem had happened in Beijing, the people responsible for that item would probably have been executed.
